Binding the Broken

there is a Bond that saves lives
ties that bind
and blood flows thicker than water
absence is said to make
the ties and heart fonder, stronger
stretching and growing across the miles
causing dreams of hearth
and youth
tangled, stringy and gnarled
roots stretch and cling to the ties
grasping for a heart that shuns
shudders in the cold
which nearness brings
this is a bond that dies
all it contacts decays
life shudders and curls
hiding and crawling away
hoping the cold fades
seeking warmth like a treasure
to bury pain in a gaping hole
a black hole
teetering on the edge
wanting to dive in but
holding back, unsure
how to bind the broken
